Here's a great flowchart from Mint.com (via neoHOUSTON) explaining the housing bubble. I think it portrays the psychology of the housing bubble pretty accurately:
I'd add a "Rapidly rising home prices" box to the first chart and an arrow pointing to "Mania for homeownership."
